Enhancing the Digital Nomads Experience: A Service Design Approach to Address Challenges and Expectations, Developing a Tailored Solution

Abstract

This thesis explored the emerging intersection of digital nomadism and service design. This study intended to provide insight into the problems, requirements, and possibilities of the relatively new concept of digital nomadism. This study focused on the different touch points that these remote workers have from the time they decide to visit a particular destination till the time they have the experience of being in that destination. This study employed the principles of service design to understand and improve the experiences of digital nomads. Factors like visa application, working environment, connectivity, well-being, and networking were considered. This study also designed a solution for digital nomads and proposed relevant stakeholders. Utilizing the Double Diamond method, this thesis uncovers the dynamics of digital nomadism under the service design. Through its structured process of divergent and convergent thinking, the method allowed for a deep understanding of the problem space and solution creation. Data acquisitions contributed to the formulation of novel service solutions in the form of a digital mobile app that takes into account and also predicts the diverse and changing needs of digital nomads. This app enables them to be more accessible and productive, increases their satisfaction, and helps them make better decisions while choosing or after arriving at a new destination. Additionally, it would help host countries attract and keep digital nomads by offering verified resources that cater to their preferences, making the country a more appealing destination.
