This scoping review focuses on the leadership challenges and opportunities that arise in the management of hybrid work within healthcare settings. It analyses findings from ten articles, and seeks to answer two central research questions: what are the specific challenges and opportunities, and how can they be managed effectively from a hybrid healthcare leadership perspective? The review identifies critical challenges, including barriers to communication, difficulties in establishing trust and accountability, limitations in technology, and the necessity of supporting workforce well-being in hybrid work environments. Meanwhile, it notes opportunities such as increased flexibility, the ability to attract a diverse workforce, the potential for innovation through advanced digital tools, and the need to reshape leadership practices to focus on empathy and inclusivity. The findings particularly emphasize the rising importance of mental health support and innovative trust-building methods, reflecting changes in leadership priorities following the pandemic. Effective strategies to tackle these challenges include the development of comprehensive communication frameworks, the strategic integration of technology, wellness initiatives, and adaptive leadership practices that balance flexibility with accountability. This review highlights the imperative for healthcare leaders to implement empathy-driven, adaptive strategies to successfully navigate hybrid work environments, offering valuable insights and contributing to the evolving conversation on hybrid leadership in healthcare.
