Globalization and migration have significantly increased cultural diversity in healthcare settings, necessitating a workforce equipped with cultural intelligence (CQ) to navigate cross-cultural interactions effectively. This study explores the role of CQ in enhancing team performance and cohesion within heterogeneous nursing teams. Employing a narrative literature review, the research investigates the four dimensions of CQ—metacognitive, cognitive, motivational, and behavioural—and their impact on team dynamics, communication, and patient care. Key findings highlight CQ’s ability to foster collaboration, reduce misunderstandings, and improve team performance in multicultural nursing environments. The study also identifies strategies to enhance CQ, including training programs, mentorship, diverse recruitment practices, and open communication. By embedding CQ into healthcare practices, nursing teams can address the complexities of cultural diversity, leading to better patient outcomes and a more inclusive work environment.
