Tiivistelmä
Childhood and adolescents’ obesity is associated with numerous health problems and an increased risk of developing connected disorders later in life. The main cause of overweight and obesity is an energy imbalance between caloric intake and expenditure. This study was aimed at reviewing how nurses can help parents learn about preventing childhood and adolescents’ obesity as well as the different factors that affect the persistence of childhood and adolescents ' obesity.

This study was carried out using the scoping review of literature selected from four electronic databases published between 2014 and 2024. The health promotion model by Nola J. Pender was chosen as the theoretical framework of the research.

The result of this study showed that nurses play a significant role in educating parents on preventing childhood and adolescents’ obesity, which includes, gentle approach, patient centered care, involvement with patient and family, and persistent dialogue with parents. The study further reveals that communication barriers, working condition and work stressors, psychological factors, and socioeconomic factors are affecting factors in preventing childhood and adolescents’ obesity by nurses.

This study concludes that numerous factors contribute to childhood obesity and many of them serve as early development of excessive weight. Therefore, implementing nurse intervention at an early stage is a feasible objective given that nursing personnel obtain proper information and training on how to respond to situations of overweight in children and adolescents.
