This thesis looks into preventative strategies for shoulder dislocation in ice hockey players. It aims to develop an educational booklet designed to provide education, practical information, and strategies to prevent shoulder dislocation. Shoulder dislocations are common in contact sports, particularly in ice hockey, in which high-level collisions and physical impacts place major stress on the shoulder joint.
The research focuses on and analyzes shoulder anatomy, biomechanics, risks of injury, and prevention strategies for junior ice hockey players aged between 14 and 21. By identifying key risk factors, such as inadequate muscle strength, collisions, and improper fitting equipment, the aim of this written work is to present targeted solutions that reduce shoulder dislocations in ice hockey players.
The educational booklet includes education, suggestions, and exercises to strengthen and stabilize the shoulder joint. While the booklet has been developed, time constraints and logistical challenges prevented full validation and testing within a practical setting, allowing for further research to assess its effectiveness. Furthermore, limited studies specifically targeted ice hockey are few, and more research is needed to create an evidence-based booklet.
Despite the limitations and challenges, the thesis provides an understanding of shoulder injury in ice hockey and offers a starting point for further injury prevention strategies. Further research is needed to evaluate and refine the end product. Within the entire ice hockey community, research is needed, with the primary objective of enhancing the sport’s safety. This will enable athletes to have longer and injury-free careers.
