Along with the development of 3D graphics and virtual production, the increasing need for Mixed Media productions also becomes inevitable in the media industry. Mixed Media is an intertwinement of reality and creativity, in which a graphic designer must have the techniques to blur out the border of 2D and 3D graphics in order to achieve an appealing look to the artwork. This thesis was implemented with the purpose of offering fundamental knowledge in visual elements, as well as tools and techniques used in graphics manipulation to maximize the overall visual appeal and effectiveness of the artwork.
While the theoretical section covers the knowledge about related visual aspects of graphics manipulation, a personal project was analysed to provide practical techniques, as well as the creative process of combining 2D and 3D graphics. By applying the theory to the analysis, improvements were made in order to achieve an optimised workflow for the practice.
With a holistic approach of both theory and practicality, this thesis benchmarked the workflow against that of a notable mixed media project in the field. Through this application, it provided an objective insight into the technique and tools for combining 2D and 3D graphics. Furthermore, the study suggested that integrating new techniques and pre production strategies can enhance the Mixed Media workflow.
