This thesis research was inspired by and focused on the international students at the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences. The main goal for the research was to investigate how those students had experienced the information available to them from SAMK as they prepared and moved to Finland. The secondary focus was on their preferences and experiences during that same period regarding the search for rental accommodation in Satakunta.
The study was conducted as quantitative research through a customer satisfaction survey. The methods were chosen for their characteristics on efficient and reliable ways to gather information from a larger group of individuals, as well as for their accessibility and functionality from the practical viewpoint.
The survey gathered answers from 67 international students on their opinions and experiences during the process of moving to Satakunta. The analysis showed that the current students were moderately satisfied with the information and its accessibility. With moderate satisfaction the analysis found clear room for improvements on the investigated processes. The research results revealed that the most noticeable room for improvement, for the information flow and the rental accommodation search, was the need for a gathered, comprehensive and accessible information package. As a conclusion to this thesis, it was determined that in order to improve the international students’ experiences in the future the commissioner could create a guide with said information that would be offered directly to the new students as well as the institutions website. In addition to this suggestion an important conclusion to end this thesis was to keep on following the international student’s satisfaction closely in the future to ensure the continuous and sustainable process development.
