Tiivistelmä
This integrative literature review was conducted to describe the use of health technology in managing asthma in children, aiming to understand how these technologies are applied in paediatric care and their impact on outcomes. A gap in the literature was addressed by examining the perspectives of healthcare providers and parents on the adoption of technologies in childhood asthma care. An integrative literature review was performed, synthesising findings from diverse sources including qualitative, quantitative, and theoretical studies, using relevant databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane, and Science Direct.

The review was underpinned by the Health Belief Model (HBM) and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which provide a framework for understanding the perceptions and acceptance of health technologies. The findings were divided into two key themes based on the research questions, which included the types of health technology currently used for managing paediatric asthma and their influences. The results indicate that technology-driven interventions, such as telemonitoring, mHealth applications, and wearable monitoring devices, have significant potential to improve adherence, lower healthcare utilisation, and increase patient involvement. It was found that digital methods can reduce healthcare utilisation and enhance quality of life for paediatric asthma patients, and that monitoring devices allow for real-time symptom tracking and individualised care, resulting in improved inhaler adherence.

The review highlighted the critical role of nurses in enabling the implementation and proficient use of health technology by providing information and addressing barriers. This review provides knowledge on integrating technology into paediatric asthma care, with a focus on the crucial role of nurses in facilitating its implementation. In collaboration with Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK), the Nursing Programme, and the Paediatric Course, this thesis aims to gain knowledge how nursing strategies can effectively integrate digital technology into paediatric asthma management.
