This thesis explores the process of automating the placing of graphical elements, such as comics, TV schedules, and weather reports, within the daily production of a newspaper using Adobe InDesign. The automation begins with content delivery via FTP from third-party services, which is then organized using File Juggler for file management between a public network to an internal network.
A structured naming convention is implemented to guarantee that the correct files are placed in the right locations. In InDesign, parent pages and placeholders are used to streamline the positioning of graphics, while Adobe ExtendScript is employed to validate and automate the placement of these elements into the predefined areas.
By automating the process, the system reduces manual intervention, significantly saving time and minimizing the possibility of human error. This approach optimizes the production workflow by seamlessly integrating external content directly into InDesign, making the process more efficient and reliable. The thesis also considers the future potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in further enhancing automation.
