Tiivistelmä
With the continuous advancement of artificial intelligence and automation, automated ships are emerging as a key development in the global shipping industry. Utilizing AI, sensors, and advanced navigation systems, automated ships enhance operational efficiency, reduce crew reliance, and improve safety. Moreover, they contribute significantly to environmental protection by integrating clean energy technologies, reducing car-bon emissions, and promoting sustainable practices in shipping.

Despite their potential, challenges remain, including port operation complexities, outdated navigation tech-nologies, and the integration of green energy. Current port facilities and communication systems are not fully equipped to support automated ships, and limitations in dynamic obstacle avoidance and map data updates hinder safe operations. Furthermore, aligning automated ships with green energy solutions presents a critical challenge in balancing economic and environmental goals.

This study compares automated ships to automated aviation systems, explores the challenges of port opera-tions and navigation, and highlights sustainable practices in green energy integration. It also discusses future development trends and provides strategic recommendations for technology advancement, international standards, and global cooperation. Utilizing both qualitative and quantitative research methods, including literature reviews, expert interviews, and case studies, this paper assesses the impact of automated ships on shipping efficiency, safety, and sustainability. The quantitative analysis focuses on performance indicators such as fuel consumption, speed, and range optimization.

In conclusion, the development of automated ship technologies holds significant promise for enhancing shipping efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting global carbon neutrality goals. As technologi-cal advancements continue and regulatory frameworks evolve, automated ships are poised to become a critical component of the shipping industry, driving smarter, greener, and more efficient global maritime operations.
