Palliatiivisessa- ja saattohoidossa olevan potilaan suunhoito

Abstract

Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli tuottaa Satakunnan hyvinvointialueen Rauman hoito-osasto 1:lle palliatiivisessa- ja saattohoidossa olevan potilaan kattava ja selkeä digitaalinen suunhoito-opas. Opinnäytetyömme tavoitteena oli lisätä hoitohenkilökunnan tietoisuutta suunhoidon tärkeydestä palliatiivisessa- ja saattohoidossa olevilla potilailla sekä parantaa osaston hoitohenkilökunnan osaamista.

Opinnäytetyölle valittiin aihe helmikuussa 2024. Opinnäytetyösuunnitelmaa aloitettiin tekemään alkukeväällä 2024. Kesän ja syksyn 2024 aikana opinnäytetyölle kerättiin teoriatietoa tutkimalla aiemmin tehtyjä töitä sekä tutkimuksia aiheesta. Tammikuussa 2025 opinnäytetyösuunnitelma hyväksyttiin, jolloin myös oppaan tekeminen aloitettiin.

Opinnäytetyön tilaaja antoi vapaat kädet suunhoito-oppaan suunnitteluun. Opas päätettiin tehdä digitaaliseksi, koska sen ajateltiin olevan helposti jokaisen hoitohenkilökunnan jäsenen saatavilla. Oppaaseen päätettiin sisällyttää sellaiset suun alueen ongelmat, jotka ovat yleisiä palliatiivisilla- ja saattohoitopotilailla. Opas toteutettiin Word-ohjelmalla. Hoito-osasto 1:n henkilökunnalle toteutettiin palautekysely oppaan pohjalta. Palautekyselyllä selvitettiin, vastaako opas hoito-osaston hoitohenkilökunnan tarpeita.

Palautekyselyyn vastasi viisi hoito-osaston hoitohenkilökunnan jäsentä. Palautteista neljä oli annettu valmiille palautekyselylomakkeille ja yksi oli vapaamuotoisesti kirjoitettu palaute. Palautteiden perusteella opas koettiin kattavaksi ja hoitohenkilökunnan tarpeet huomioivaksi.

Jatkossa tuottamaamme suunhoito-opasta voitaisiin käyttää myös uusien hoitajien sekä opiskelijoiden perehdyttämismateriaalina. Jatkokehitysaiheena voisi olla opas, joka olisi suunnattu palliatiivisessa ja saattohoidossa olevien potilaiden omaisille. Lisäksi ideana voisi olla, että opasta hyödynnettäisiin myös muilla osastoilla.

The purpose of this thesis was to produce a comprehensive and clear digital oral care guide for patients in palliative and hospice care at Ward 1 of the Rauma Care Unit, part of the Satakunta Wellbeing Services County. The aim of our thesis was to increase the nursing staff’s awareness of the importance of oral care for patients in palliative and hospice care, and to improve the competence of the ward’s nursing staff.

The topic for the thesis was chosen in February 2024. The thesis plan was started in early spring 2024. During the summer and autumn of 2024, theoretical information was gathered for the thesis by reviewing previous works and studies on the topic. In January 2025, the thesis plan was approved, and the creation of the guide began.

The commissioner of the thesis gave full freedom in designing the oral care guide. It was decided to make the guide digital because it was believed to be easily accessible to all members of the healthcare team. The guide was designed to include oral health issues that are common among palliative and hospice care patients. The guide was created using Microsoft Word. A feedback survey based on the guide was conducted for the staff of care ward 1. The survey aimed to determine whether the guide met the needs of the healthcare staff.

Five members of the care ward staff responded to the feedback survey. Four of the responses were given on the prepared feedback forms, and one was written as free-form feedback. Based on the feedback, the guide was considered comprehensive and attentive to the needs of the healthcare staff.

In the future, the oral care guide we created could also be used as onboarding material for new nurses and students. A potential topic for further development could be a guide aimed at the family members of palliative and hospice care patients. Additionally, the idea could be to use the guide in other wards as well.
