The goal of this development work was to equip kindergarten educators with a structured toolkit to teach children foundational safety skills, such as identifying body parts, recognizing personal boundaries, and responding to unsafe situations.
The toolkit was developed through literature reviews on child development and abuse prevention, interviews and collaborative workshops with educators, and iterative pilot testing in kindergarten classrooms. Activities such as games, songs, discussion prompts, and printable resources were refined through feedback. The final toolkit is organized into four themes: Understanding the Human Body, Personal Boundaries, Recognizing Safe and Unsafe Situations, and Self-Advocacy (Say No, Get Away, Tell). Educator feedback highlighted increased confidence in addressing sensitive topics, while pilot observations underscored the toolkit’s usability and age-appropriate design. The outcomes position the toolkit as an evidence-based resource to support proactive safeguarding strategies in early childhood education.
