Tiivistelmä
This thesis covers the development and optimization of the database of a healthcare application at Company X, a startup integrating healthcare. The main goal of the project was to improve the drug database structure and scalability, along with the inclusion of support for multiple languages to serve users in different countries. The project was conducted as part of a three month internship, during which I worked as a junior software developer.

The project required integrating external medical information into the program and ensuring that the system would be capable of handling a growing amount of data without compromising performance or accuracy. To this end, I worked with SQL in altering and optimizing the database and used Python in processing, cleaning, and importing multilingual pharmaceutical information from various public sources.
The thesis is in the form of a diary, which allowed me to reflect each week on the issues faced and the progress achieved. The reflections show how I gradually improved in handling real life healthcare data, tuned problem solving strategies, and gained first hand experience in data management and working for a startup.

The results are a more flexible and scalable database, better handling of new datasets, and multilingual capability. These improvements are a step towards the mission of the application in providing safer, more personalized healthcare solutions, and offer a foundation for future development as the company grows.
