Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this thesis was to explore the role of emotional attachment in the music-making process and its impact on the songwriter, the process itself, and the final creation. The goal of this thesis was to share singer-songwriters’ music-making processes and thereby provide peer experiences to other singer-songwriters and music makers.
Three singer-songwriters were interviewed via email. The interviews were conducted in the spring and autumn of 2024. It was discovered that while the emotional attachment is most evident and impactful during the songwriting phase, it plays a significant role throughout the entire music-making process.
The practical part of this thesis involves a project featuring three original songs, written and composed by the author. The emotional aspect of the music-making process was observed from the start of songwriting until the songs were ready to be published.
