Tiivistelmä
This bachelor's thesis examines how insulin is administered to adults with type 1 diabetes and the critical role nurses play in helping these patients cope with their condition.
It covers the basics of type 1 diabetes, including how it's diagnosed, its symptoms, and different ways to administer insulin-like daily injections, insulin pumps, and inhalers.
The study focuses on existing research to discuss the challenges patients face and how healthcare professionals, especially nurses, can support them. It highlights that most patients prefer insulin pumps over daily injections.
When it comes to type 1 diabetes nurses play a huge role in the education of type 1 diabetes. Education, regular medical checkups, and good social support are found to be essential in managing diabetes effectively. Nurses are the ones that patients can rely on. Especially in the emotional support. The thesis concludes that when patients are well-informed and use insulin pumps, they generally have a better quality of life.
