Enhancing IT Asset Management efficiency : recommendations for Centria University of Applied Sciences

Abstract

Effective IT Asset Management (ITAM) is critical for organizations to optimize resource allocation, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure compliance with IT governance policies. As a subset of IT Service Management (ITSM), ITAM focuses on the financial, inventory, and contractual aspects of IT assets throughout their lifecycle. Managing IT assets can be complex, particularly in large institutions like Centria UAS, which supports over 4,000 students and 340 employees, each relying on various hardware and software resources for academic and administrative functions.

This thesis examines Centria UAS current IT asset management processes and compares them with global ITAM best practices. The study aims to identify gaps in the existing system and propose recommendations for improvement. A key focus is on modern ITAM solutions that integrate automation, cloud-based accessibility, and lifecycle notifications to streamline asset tracking and management.

To achieve this objective, the research employs a combination of literature review and interviews with IT personnel at Centria UAS. The findings of this study will provide actionable insights for enhancing the institution’s IT asset management framework, ensuring better resource utilization, cost efficiency, and seamless IT service delivery.
