Tiivistelmä
Violence against healthcare staff in nursing homes has become increasingly prevalent, with serious repercussions for both staff well-being and resident care outcomes. This research examines the negative effects of resident aggression in nursing homes on healthcare staff, focusing on its impact on healthcare workers' emotional, mental, and physical well-being, as well as its influence on the quality-of-care delivery.

A literature review was performed as the primary data collection method, and qualitative content analysis was applied. Only peer-reviewed studies published between 2014 and 2024 were considered. The findings indicate that resident aggression has significant psychological and physical effects on healthcare workers, manifesting as stress, burnout, anxiety, and reduced job satisfaction. Aggressive behaviours contribute to high emotional stress, increased staff turn-over, and absenteeism, ultimately leading to a decline in the quality of care in nursing homes. Furthermore, workplace violence lowers healthcare worker’s morale and negatively impacts care delivery.

The study highlights the need for workplace safety initiatives, including compre-hensive safety protocols, increased efforts to address workplace violence, and staff de-escalation training. Additionally, findings reveal gaps in existing re-search regarding the effectiveness of intervention strategies, emphasizing the need for further studies on containment approaches to aggression in nursing homes. Addressing these challenges would enhance healthcare worker motiva-tion and retention.
