Tiivistelmä
This thesis was based on an ongoing project to update the XPSMC safety controller of Schneider Electric, widely used in press machine safety applications. The aim of this thesis was to clearly define the technical details, safety requirements, and to analyze the current safety controllers (as of Q4 2024) related to press machine safety, ultimately supporting the project.
Firstly, there is a detailed overview of press machines. Then machine safety is introduced in general, including safety standards, risk assessment, and a preview of common machine safety components. This is followed by press machine safety. This chapter contains the application of machine safety specifically for press machines. At the end, there is an overview of the safety controllers and function blocks offered in the market as of Q4 2024. This thesis concludes by providing the requirements for the hardware features and the function blocks a safety controller for press machines should provide in the current market.
