Neuropathic pain produces serious detrimental effects on elderly people by causing multiple chronic health conditions and reducing both physical and mental function. This thesis examines neuropathic pain management among older adults, with a focus on identifying barriers and effective treatment strategies to improve patient outcomes. This study employed a scoping review approach to evaluate peer-reviewed articles published within 2014-2024 which originate from PubMed alongside Google Scholar and CINAHL and Scopus.
Nurses play an essential part in neurologic pain treatment optimization by conducting complete pain evaluations while teaching patients and working together with other providers and fighting for customized treatment strategies. The recommendations involve better training for healthcare providers along with better diagnostic methods and wider accessibility of non-medication pain management methods and patient-centric treatment models to deliver holistic effective care to elderly patients. A strong multidisciplinary relationship between nurses along with physicians and physiotherapists and professionals in mental health remains fundamental to properly handling the complex pain points in neuropathic conditions which benefit the overall health and wellbeing of aging individuals.
