The integration of robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is shifting the dynamics in the restaurant sector at an unprecedented rate. This study focused on how AI and robotics are used in restaurant operations, what further advancements can be predicted in ten years, and what proactive steps managers should take to make the most of those coming opportunities. A survey capturing multiple viewpoints was conducted in early 2025 throughout Finland and the rest of Europe, where 157 participants included restaurant owners, employees, and customers. The findings demonstrated a marked proliferation in the utilization of AI self-order kiosks, AI recommendation systems, and robotic food preparation systems. Respondents foretasted fully automated kitchens and smart delivery service systems integrated with emotional AI will significantly increase over the next decade. However, maintaining a human element to the technology was overwhelmingly preferred. The study adds to existing frameworks but provides important insights on the need to balance service with automation. Practical insights for managers highlight incorporating AI technology in a strategic yet simple-to-implement way while placing customers first. Limitations regarding geographic focus, sampling balance, and the evolving nature of technology were acknowledged. Suggestions for future research include examining cross-national competition and conducting longitudinal studies to capture changes in the sector over time. This research highlights the transformative yet nuanced role that AI and robotics will play in shaping the future of the restaurant business.
