Tiivistelmä
Gold mining is a major industry in Ghana contributing significantly to the country’s economic growth and development, yet the sector is faced with numerous challenges when it comes to efficiency and man-agement. The sector is now responding by integrating technology and developing optimized supply chains to enhance performance. Despite this transaction, the direct effect of supply chain management (SCM) practices and electronic data interchange (EDI) on the operational performance of Ghanaian gold mining is inadequately researched.
This thesis examines the impact of SCM and EDI on operational performance, concentrating on the role of strategic customer-supplier relationship. The purpose is to understand the best practices and to weigh their joint effects on supply chain performance.
An empirical study, based on in-depth interviews with professionals in procurement, logistics, supply chain, and IT departments, were carried out following a qualitative approach. Analysis was conducted thematically and facilitated by visual tools in Microsoft Excel.
The results indicate that EDI improves the speed and accuracy of procurement, and the coordination of suppliers. Strategic sourcing and partnership help to optimize operation outcomes. However, barriers to full digital integration were realized, including digital illiteracy among suppliers, inadequate infrastructure and the delay in regulation.
The result of the study shows that SCM practice with EDI and strong supplier relationship have significant impact on operational performance. These findings offer gold mining companies and policy makers with recommendations to stimulate digital transformation and sustainability of the supply-chain in resource-based sectors.
