Att vara ung med cancer: en systematisk litteraturstudie om hur cancer påverkar ungas liv

Abstract

Examensarbetet är gjort som en litteraturstudie med syfte att ta reda på hur unga påverkas av cancer. Med unga syftar skribenten på ungdomar och unga vuxna i åldrarna 15 - 39 år men åldersspannet kan variera beroende på källorna och de vetenskapliga artiklarna som arbetet utgår från. Examensarbetets frågeställningar är: 1. Hur påverkas unga av cancerdiagnosen och sjukdomsfasen? 2. Vad kan vårdpersonalen och sjukskötare göra för att stödja unga cancerpatienter? Cancer hör till de sjukdomar som orsakar flest dödsfall globalt. Cancer kan uppstå av olika orsaker så som från livsstilsvanor som rökning och ohälsosamma kostvanor, exponering för cancerframkallande ämnen från omgivningen eller på grund av genetiska mutationer. Cancer bryter främst ut bland äldre vuxna men cancer förekommer bland människor i alla åldrar. Det är viktigt att vårdpersonalen och sjukskötare bemöter cancerpatienterna individuellt enligt deras behov och att åldersmässiga faktorer beaktas i bemötandet. I examensarbetet kommer allmän information om cancer och olika cancersjukdomar att tas upp. Olika behandlingsformer och cancersjukdomar samt de mest kända orsakerna som kan leda till cancer kommer också att beskrivas. Slutligen kommer fokuset att föras till cancer bland unga; vad kan särskilt beaktas när det kommer till cancer i yngre åldersgrupper och hur påverkar sjukdomen den ungas hälsa och liv? Hur kan man som vårdpersonal och som sjukskötare bemöta den unga cancerpatienten på ett sätt som ger den stöd?

The thesis has been made as a literature study with the purpose to find out how young people are affected by cancer. By young people the author is referring to adolescents and young adults in the ages 15 – 39 years old but the age span can vary depending on the sources and scientific articles the thesis is based on. The questions for the thesis are: 1. How are young people affected by the cancer diagnosis and the disease phase? 2. How can the healthcare personnel and nurses support young cancer patients? Cancer is among the diseases which causes the most fatalities on a global scale. Cancer can arise because of different reasons, for example lifestyle choices such as smoking and unhealthy dietary habits, exposure to cancer-causing substances from the environment or because of genetic mutations. Cancer arises most commonly among older adults, but cancer occurs in people of all ages. It is important for the healthcare personnel and the nurses to treat the cancer patients individually and according to their needs, and that aspects such as age-related factors are considered when treating the patients. The thesis will also include general information about cancer and different kinds of cancer diseases. Different kinds of treatment methods and cancer diseases will be described, including the most common factors that can lead to cancer. Lastly, the focus will be shifted to cancer among young people. What can be especially noted when it comes to cancer in younger age groups and how does the disease affect the young person’s life and health? How can healthcare personnel and nurses treat the young cancer patient in a way that supports the individual?
