Tiivistelmä
The quality of life (QoL) of Elderly patients in home care and nursing homes is greatly impacted by their interactions with the nursing staff. These contacts go beyond conventional clinical care to influence emotional well-being, social involvement, and overall life satisfaction. This research explores the impact of these interactions on the physical, emotional and social well-being of the elderly. The study aims to investigate the relationship between nurse-patient interactions and the quality of life of elderly patients in home care settings or nursing homes.
Data were gathered from fourteen studies through a scoping review. To ensure consistency, data was extracted data using key factors such as author(s), year, study design, location, and key findings. The data was evaluated and classified into categories that represented common patterns throughout the trials. Narrative summaries described essential findings, whereas tabular summaries gave a brief overview for comparison and reference. The analysis entailed identifying repeating patterns and categorizing studies into theme groups to emphasize common findings or variances.
Findings show that pleasant, sympathetic interactions and good treatment by nurses significantly improve patients' mental health and social participation. Negative or taskoriented relationships, on the other hand, were linked to feelings of isolation and a lower quality of life. Nursing training, staffing levels, and institutional culture all have an impact on the quality of these encounters. In-home care and nursing homes, flexibility in care routines encouraged a sense of autonomy among patients, whereas nursing facilities frequently excelled at fostering community through group activities facilitated by nurses.
The findings highlight the importance of healthcare policies and training programs that prioritize interpersonal skills and person-centered care models to improve nurse-patient interactions. Also, quality connections can reduce feelings of being alone, provide emotional support, promote a sense of control and empowerment, and considerably improve the overall well-being of the elderly. While problems persist, particularly in home health care services, the evidence suggests that investing in the quality of nurse-patient interactions can yield large benefits for elderly adults' quality of life. Prior research has supported this approach, highlighting the impact of relational care in lowering depression and loneliness in older persons. Future research should look into the long-term effects of nurse-patient relationships on geriatric health outcomes in various cultural settings. Improving these relationships has the potential to make significant strides toward positively impacting nursing practices and enhancing the quality of care for aging populations
