Commercial and open-source options for home security camera surveillance systems were explored in this thesis. An overview was provided and the increasing role of AI and pose estimation in enhancing surveillance and safety capabilities was highlighted. Leading commercial home security cameras, examining their features, and prominent open-source solutions were reviewed and their respective features, installation processes and examples of practical deployment were examined. The results provide insight into the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. Several open-source options were tested, and the options available at the time of the study were found not to function with enough reliability compared to the known track record of the commercial solutions.
