Tiivistelmä
This thesis explored the innovative concept of transforming plastic waste into wearable art suitable for red carpet events. Fashion industry has a negative impact on the environment, and as designers we need sustainable design solutions. The study focused on showing how plastic waste materials can be transformed into stunning wearable art for red carpet events and exhibitions. The aim was to create a stunning art piece for red carpet events and exhibitions, to question the habits of the fashion industry and encourage a more environmentally friendly fashion culture to influence popular red carpet fashion trends.

The data and information for this thesis were gathered through a hands-on design process, in which plastic experimentation and the creation of prototypes served as the primary methods of data collection. Additionally, a literature review was conducted to examine existing studies on sustainable fashion, upcycling, and wearable art, with a focus on designers who have successfully incorporated waste materials into their practice.

The project highlighted the artistic potential of plastic waste and how they can be transformed into fashion statements. The resulting wearable art served as a symbol of sustainability, drawing attention to fashion’s role in addressing environmental challenges. In addition, the project aimed to inspire both designers and consumers to embrace sustainable fashion on a broader scale.
