Role of Blockchain in Securing the Internet of Things

Abstract

This paper was divided into seven chapters, firstly the introduction chapter which gave an overview of what is to be expected, the purpose and objectives. The second chapter explained the theoretical foundations related to IoT, its security, typical risks, role of blockchain and how they affected day-to-day activities. Other topics such as IoT network architecture and device-to-device communication possibilities were also discussed. Towards the end of the second chapter, Blockchain technologies in IoT were focused on, giving a detailed explanation on it. The third chapter dealt with the methodology where the study approach was discussed, the quantitative study method. It also gave a brief description of the other forms of research methods. The fourth chapter focused on the data collection process. Here, types of data, analyses of data, pros and cons, etc. all were discussed, and the one that suited best for this study was chosen. Fifth chapter was the most important and the time consuming part of the study as it took a long time to get this section completed. It is the result analysis section in which the survey method was chosen and the data gathered were precisely checked and reviewed before analyzing it, hence it was time-consuming. Chapters 6 and 7 were pretty smooth-going chapters which basically dealt with the discussion part and the conclusion part. The discussion chapter focused on the goals of the research and answering the research question and lastly the study was closed with the conclusion section. The study also had few figures to enhance the study quality, and it also had pie charts to enhance the data analysis in pictorial presentation. Lastly, there were a reference list and an appendix which had the questionnaire used for data collection.
