Tiivistelmä
A six-week workshop on crafts, titled Clay and Play was created and executed for children in the age group of 7–12, with a focus on enhancing their creativity, sense of design, and understanding of sustainability. Engaging activities using safe and eco-friendly materials, such as magic clay, natural materials, and bio colours were conducted to trigger discovery and imagination. A final exhibition was arranged to showcase the children's work, highlighting improvements in their artwork as well as environmental awareness. Relevant education theory and practice supported the project, focusing on student-cantered learning, collaboration, and sensory use.
Relevant personal and professional growth occurred in the process. Teaching practice was improved, workshop and event planning skills were developed, and confidence in developing sustainable crafts programs was increased. Data collection methods, including observation and interview, were researched and utilized to help evaluate the influence of the workshop. Information was gleaned regarding how children respond to creative activities and how sustainable practices can be integrated into art education. This thesis provides a valuable contribution to education for children and sustainable design, and will encourage teachers to unite learning, creativity, and responsibility in their own classrooms.
