Tiivistelmä
This thesis explores the cultural, social and economic impacts of hosting the Eurovision Song Contest from the perspective of event managers. The purpose of the study is to explore how event managers see and handle the situations associated with hosting the contest, as well as how the event contributes to national branding, community engagements and global visibility. This research highlights Eurovision´s role not only as an entertaining event, but also a platform for cultural exchange and economic driver.

The theoretical framework of this thesis captures the concepts of event industry, cultural identity and event tourism. Theories presented in this study provide the basis for understanding how large-scale events impact national identity, social dynamics and economic development. This thesis also considers sustainability and ethical considerations, as well as planning and execution of mega-events.

There is a qualitative method implemented in this study. Using a semi-structured interview, where event and cultural managers took part in a discussion about hosting and planning Eurovision. The interviews offer insights about the short- and long-term impacts of the event, on logistical, financial and cultural aspects of the study.

The results give an insight on cultural identity, community and the economical boosts. There are also challenges related to this, such as financial strain, complex logistics and inclusivity as well as political and ethical considerations. The interviewees put an emphasis on the importance of sustainability, transparency and community involvement to ensure future success.

In conclusion, this thesis demonstrates the multifaced effects of the Eurovision Song Contest and its impact on cultural, social and economic effects on the host nation. The interviewees find the event to be an opportunity and a challenge, requiring careful planning, ethical accountability and sustainability considerations. The findings contribute to the broader understanding of practices needed in large-scale events and offer practical recommendations for future Eurovision host nations.
