Tiivistelmä
This thesis describes the career challenges faced by the Sri Lankan immigrants in Finland, especially where Local language (Finnish) plays a great role towards employment and integration. The research is aimed at determining the primary obstacles of this demographic group to overcome in the Finnish labour market, as well as the evaluation of the current support from government and municipal services. A quantitative research design was used, where data was collected through a survey after which they were analysed through descriptive statistics and pivot charts in Excel Spread sheet.
The findings of the study show that language barrier is a major obstacle to advancement in one’s career and social integration of the Sri Lankan migrants in Finland. Also, the study focuses on difficulties associated with the recognition of foreign qualifications and cultural differences at the workplace. A significant number of respondents also find the government integration programs to be only moderately effective, according to the analysis.
The thesis ends emphasizing on the need for improved language support, simplified processes of qualification recognition, and improved integration services for better career prospects of Sri Lankan immigrants in Finland. Future studies should include longitudinal studies to measure the long-term effect of integration policies and programs. Additionally, this describes the author’s contribution and how they overcome and handle their pressure while doing this research.
