Tiivistelmä
Sustainable air travel minimises the environmental impact of flying while maintaining its undenia-ble social and economic benefits. Although sustainable air travel has improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions per passenger, the rapid growth in global flight demand makes it challenging. Corporates with business travel by air are key players in the challenge, as they have better op-tions to invest in sustainable aviation initiatives in supporting their corporate sustainability actions.
The aim of this thesis is to highlight the current state, challenges, and opportunities for Finnish corporates to adopt sustainable air travel practices.
The theoretical framework introduces the concepts of sustainable air and business travel, the different initiatives available to support sustainable air travel, and corporate adoption of it.
The research methodology involves conducting qualitative semi-structured interviews with four experts in corporate travel in different organisations. Qualitative data processing and analysis have been used as a content analysis method.
The findings of the research reveal that corporate sustainability is increasingly included in corpo-rate travel programs through measures like requiring justification for travel, prioritising direct flights, and improving itinerary planning. Challenges include global standardisation and utilisation of travel data and reporting, and meeting new regulatory demands, which are yet to be defined. Sustainable aviation initiatives like Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) are causing economic impli-cations to travel, and corporates are not ready to take the extra expenses.
