Employability and job satisfaction in full-stack web development training graduates : a comparative analysis

Abstract

This thesis discovered graduates’ employability and job satisfaction levels in the Full-Stack Web Devel-opment Training Program Business College in Helsinki offers. The training program aims to train stu-dents willing to upskill or change their careers with practical knowledge of web development achieved through curriculum, group work, and internship.

The study used a quantitative research approach created with structured survey questionnaires, which were distributed to program graduates to assess both the effectiveness of the training in making them employable and the overall job satisfaction of those employed in the field. Key areas of employability assessments included employment outcome, time taken to secure a job, relevance of skills, and employ-ment situation. For the factors influencing job satisfaction, work-life balance, salary, and professional growth opportunities were considered.

Research findings revealed that while most graduates found jobs after graduation, often enabled by the quality of internship and practical experiences, a notable number of graduates still faced challenges in getting the job due to mismatched expectations from the program and job market conditions. Job satis-faction was generally high among employed graduates because of a positive company culture, fair sala-ry, and flexible working system. However, others were concerned about job security and limited growth opportunities due to the size of the company and rapid changes in technologies.

The research concluded that while the Full-Stack Web Development Training Program has been highly effective in enhancing students’ employability, further improvements are recommended on maintaining the quality of the internships, quality partner companies, updating curriculum according to current mar-ket demand, and post-graduation support services for both unemployed and employed graduates.
