Tiivistelmä
This thesis was conducted as an eight-week working diary to document the author’s daily responsibilities and professional development as a UX Designer Trainee at Totemi Investment Finland. The background and context of the study were established by outlining the organization’s user-centered design approach, the R&D team’s composition, and the digital tools used (e.g., Figma, WordPress, SEMrush). The primary objective was to reflect on the transition from academic training to real-world UX practice, examining how theoretical frameworks informed practical tasks, and to evaluate the trainee’s personal, practical, and professional growth within a hybrid remote environment.
A structured diary method captured weekly observations, reflections, and tasks across key UX areas—testing, prototyping, content, SEO, UI collaboration, service design, and frameworks. Core UX theories guided the work, supported by data from usability tests, competitor analysis, and SEO tools. Reflections were summarized using tables and frameworks across personal, practical, and professional dimensions.
The diary approach supported deep learning, self-reflection, and better communication with developers and stakeholders. The trainee successfully applied academic theory to real-world tasks, built resilience, and improved collaboration. Ongoing self-evaluation, flexible UX methods, and active use of new tools were key to growth, setting a clear path for future development.
