The aim of this thesis was examining the possibility of improving communication through implementation of a new communication system. The thesis observed the two first steps taken for implementing the system, which were translating the system into Finnish and building a pilot factory hierarchy into the system.
The thesis was commissioned by SKF. SKF’s main areas of expertise include bearings, lubrication systems and services. Some of the services focus on condition monitoring. The system of which implementation process’s first steps are followed in the thesis is called ADD and it is provided by ADDsystems Internation AB. The implementation of ADD aims to improve communication in the condition monitoring field between SKF’s client responsibles and their clients.
The translation process started with estimating the then current state of the Finnish translation in ADD that had been created with an automatic translation tool. After the need for a new translation was determined the translation process began. The thesis describes the different phases of the Finnish translation and the reasonings for chosen methods. As a result, a new Finnish translation of ADD was created.
The creation of the pilot factory hierarchy started with choosing a suitable client hierarchy and determining the way the hierarchy would be added to ADD. The selected method was to import the hierarchy, and the thesis describes its steps. As a result, an accurate replica of client’s existing hierarchy was imported to ADD.
