Tiivistelmä
Due to global warming green logistics has been an important topic for some time. Companies everywhere are making changes to be more sustainable. Hungary being in central Europe connects other European countries, therefore it plays an important role in transportation.
The objective of the thesis was to find out the current state of logistics and green logistics in Hungary, and to find out the reason why middle-sized companies made or did not make the switch to green logistics. What benefit they achieved when they made the switch or what was the reason why they did not do it and what could motivate them. Also, to find out the employee’s assessment on the topic.
The thesis was based on literature, online research and qualitative research. The thesis started with a short history about Hungary, the current state of logistics and looked at some projects that were available for companies to help the switch to green logistics. For the interviews’ semi structured interview was used. The interviewees were reached via email, then the questions were sent to them by email and then teams, or other communication channels were used for the follow up discussions. The companies for the interviews were chosen from all parts of Hungary to see the influence of the geographical location of the company. However, the only companies that are responded were from or around Budapest, therefore no information was received from companies on the rural area, which made it impossible to compare the answers in the way it was wished for.
The responses to the interview questions differs. Some responded positively, while some answered that green logistics in Hungary is only used for advertisement purposes. Clearly there are positive improvements in middle size companies, but Hungary is still a long way to become alike any other European countries such as Austria, Germany or Denmark.
