This thesis describes the process of planning, developing, and publishing a picrew that has been designed with greater inclusivity as its main focus. Picrew.me is a website that hosts avatar creators. The study explains how inclusivity is defined and why it is important to both game publishers and gamers. The study goes over the most prominent issues in the inclusivity department in the game industry. The work examines the process of creating a picrew and the actions required to ensure that minority groups are more equally represented.
A practice-based research method is used to produce a case study that investigates the process of providing content for an avatar creator. This study is based on research and the development of a series of graphic assets used in the construction of a picrew. The deliverable is a published set of elements to be used as an avatar creator on the Picrew.me website.
The study underlines the lack of diversity and the importance of inclusivity within these avatar creating sites. It also emphasises the significant need for adequate background research before starting the design process. Ultimately, the study uncovers the importance of planning and organization in the practice of producing a large picrew that represents diversity.
