Tiivistelmä
This thesis explores the diverse career paths available to professional violinists. The topic is particularly relevant to the author, who is approaching a personal career decision. The objective is to provide a comprehensive overview of employment opportunities for violinists, ranging from violin pedagogy to solo performance and entrepreneurship.
The research is based on a variety of written sources, including websites, books, and articles. Additionally, interviews were conducted with professional violin teachers, orchestral musicians, and chamber music performers.
The findings suggest that a career as a violinist or violin teacher is demanding and requires significant self-discipline, physical and mental stamina, and time. Financial instability, stress, and health-related challenges are common in this field. It is very rewarding to be able to do what you love and feel passionate about. Teaching students, witnessing their growth, performing masterpieces of orchestral and chamber music, and connecting with audiences through music are among the many reasons why individuals choose to dedicate their lives to the violin.
