Tiivistelmä
A custom-designed multilingual website was developed for Suomen Arki, a registered association focused on organizing events for children and adults. The background for the project was the organization’s lack of a centralized and functional online appearance which was presented only on social media. The objective was to create a responsive, easily maintainable website featuring an event calendar, online registration, and e-commerce functionality.
The implementation was carried out as an applied development project. Research methods included both qualitative and quantitative approaches, combining literature reviews, plugin testing, and interviews with club organization members. Several CMS platforms were evaluated, with WordPress and WooCommerce selected as the most suitable tools based on functionality, cost-efficiency, and user-friendliness. Plugins for calendar integration, multilingual support, and performance optimization were also tested and implemented.
The result was a fully functional website that included a calendar with filter options, WooCommerce-based registration, and multilingual capability via GTranslate. The platform allows event participants to register online, and organizers to manage bookings and view registration statistics. A visual site prototype was created in Figma and implemented by using custom WordPress themes and templates.
It was concluded that the selected tools—WordPress, WooCommerce, and supporting plugins—successfully fulfilled the functional and technical requirements of the project. While some limitations were noted in free plugin versions, the final solution was considered cost-effective, scalable, and well-aligned with the organization’s current and future needs.
