Clubroom web app development : integrating design and React.js for a clubroom

Abstract

This thesis addresses the challenge for Centria University of Applied Sciences students on finding the dedicated online space where they can connect with peers/students who share similar academic interest. Many students struggle to find the right people to study with, especially when they are new to a subject or not very outgoing as no dedicated platform existed for this purpose. This project focused on designing a user interface in Figma and developing a responsive frontend only web application prototype that functions as virtual clubroom. This prototype enables students to join study groups based on topics they care about, chat in real-time, and share helpful resources. The interface was created in Figma and interactive prototype was built using React.js with mock data, to make the experience smooth and visually engaging. The goal was to create a functional, welcoming and interactive platform. This work underscored the importance of collaboration between designers and developers in creating a useful digital space. In the end, this project aims to support peer learning by providing students with accessible tool for academic connection and collaboration, and for peers to study and grow together online.
