Tiivistelmä
This Bachelor’s thesis, commissioned by Normet Oy, was dedicated to optimizing the company's packing material for the global distribution of spare parts.
At first, some basic parameters were introduced to explain the optimization of the packing material for the company. As the packaging material should fulfil several tasks during transportation, a brief introduction was done to explain the effect of each parameter.
Then, the historical data was presented to show the number of variants and differences in consuming different variants. As an addition, the survey’s result was put to work to collect feedback from warehouse workers from different locations to have an expert opinion.
As a result, the new portfolio for cardboard boxes and plywood boxes was created and explained, as well as the impact on sustainability was estimated. In conclusion, suggestions were made for shifting from old to new packaging solutions, and some proposals were made for continuing the optimization process with a focus on sustainability and safety.
