Tiivistelmä
The main purpose of this thesis is to design and implement an indoor air quality feedback system for buildings. The thesis supports building managers and owners in maintaining optimal indoor conditions by developing an open-source and user-friendly application that enables building users to report issues related to temperature, air quality, and other comfort factors using QR codes.
The research questions addressed are: What factors influence users’ willingness to provide feedback on indoor air quality and how can these factors be leveraged in system design? How can feedback systems be designed to effectively serve both building users and managers? Finally, what interface design approaches promote user participation and enable actionable feedback collection?
The system developed in this thesis is practical in nature and follows a project development model. Its key concepts related to indoor air quality, user feedback and report management are introduced. Besides, the project is implemented using Django Framework for the back-end, React with Vite for the front-end and PostgreSQL for data storage. Agile methodology and iterative prototyping are used throughout the development process to refine the system based on user needs.
Finally, this project provides a quick and intuitive feedback mechanism, which enhances user engagement and enables building managers to respond more effectively to indoor air quality issues. As a result, energy can be used more efficiently, meanwhile public health can be improved.
