The process of cardiac surgery creates substantial psychological distress together with physical pain and prolonged healthcare requirements. This review evaluates the effectiveness of preoperative education as a method to enhance postoperative results for adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery. The review analyzes six core peer-reviewed studies through qualitative content analysis to determine how preoperative education affects psychological outcomes and physical recovery and healthcare utilization among adult cardiac surgery patients.
The research shows that nurse-led multimodal preoperative education leads to better psychological readiness and improved pain management and faster functional recovery and decreased complications. The benefits stem from cognitive and behavioral improvements which align with Self-Efficacy theory.
