Tiivistelmä
This thesis explores the evolution of ransomware and its future impact on cybersecurity, focusing on how emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain, and quantum computing could shape ransomware threats. It examines how these technologies could enhance the sophistication of ransomware attacks and how they can also be leveraged for improved defensive measures. The research highlights the role of AI in automated attacks, the use of blockchain in ransomware payments, and quantum computing's potential for encryption. A risk assessment framework is proposed to help small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) protect against evolving threats. The thesis concludes with recommendations for future cybersecurity strategies, aiming to strengthen defences and mitigate ransomware risks.
