This diary-based thesis explores the author’s personal and professional development during 2024-2025 season in Finland, as a part of the Degree in Coaching and Management in Vierumäki. Thesis was conducted during the third school year work placement, this thesis documents the author’s reflections in her job as a strength and conditioning coach.
The aim of the thesis was to create a facilitative environment that fosters resilience in athletes. The process of the thesis consists three main themes: building high challenge, building high support and lastly finding the balance between those two. The themes were chosen based on the theoretical framework and the importance in the author’s coaching development.
Reporting of the diary entries begin in 2025 February and lasted until 2025 end of march with total of 8 weeks, resulting of total 20 diary reports. Each week contains a theme with specific objectives and personal development is analyzed through the weekly reports.
Through this process, the author improved key personal and professional skills in sports coaching and gaining valuable understanding into athlete-centered coaching practices.
The author improved her personal and professional skills through the thesis and is able to use this experience in the future as a part of her coaching and as a learning experience. The experience contributed to her personal and professional growth, and provided a foundation for continued learning in the future coaching contexts.
