Tiivistelmä
This thesis examined the process of developing an RFID-based employee management system, designed to address shortcomings in manual attendance tracking and payroll processing at Sbotech Oy.
The objective was to create an automated solution that would record employees’ working hours, calculating overtime and special compensation for weekends and holidays, while providing transparent access to employee attendance and salary information.
The system was implemented using a NodeMCU microcontroller connected to an RFID card reader to capture employee check-ins and check-outs, transmitting the data via Wi-Fi to a Laravel-based web application, where it was stored in a MySQL database. This attendance data was later used to process employee payroll. The development process involved prototyping the hardware setup, building RESTful APIs for data communication, and designing responsive web interfaces for both administrators and employees. Controlled testing using sample RFID cards and simulated work scenarios was conducted to validate the system’s performance.
The web application supports real-time attendance monitoring and automated payroll calculations based on configurable pay rates by Human Resources (HR). The findings confirmed that integrating RFID technology with web-based management tools significantly improved workforce management efficiency.
