The use of Scalgo to design wetlands

Abstract

The purpose of this study on wetland design came about because of the amount of nutrient load that was flowing from Västerby area to the Baltic Sea and the Raaseborg city needed ways to reduce this. The study aimed at using a computer aided program Scalgo to design wetlands in the Västerby area. In the project we identified two suitable locations and created wetlands following wetland selection criteria. The study was supported by specific objective which was to identify the factors needed to select a site in wetland design and our study came out with factors such as soil type, depression areas, free flow accumulation and land use of the area. Our study had some recommendations such as suggestions in dams to be created in depression areas to hold water and act like wetlands to minimize wetland creations which might be expensive. Also, GIS software was recommended to use on a similar study since our study was limited due to scalgo live having limited features.
