In today’s digitally oriented world, the importance of a smooth user experience has become increasingly recognized. While some people are effortlessly using digital solutions, others encounter difficulties due to factors such as disabilities or limited experience with digital products, resulting in a lack of intuitive understanding of how to use these applications. That is why understanding users’ needs and translating those into the design of the application is vital.
The goal of this thesis was to design a mobile application by modifying an existing one, with customer provided requirements and visual design guidelines. The design was created with Figma and aimed to accessibility with smooth user experience by following the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2) and focusing on goal-directed design. To accomplish these objectives, this thesis examines the processes of user interface and user experience design, including the theories of Nielsen's heuristics and Cooper's goal-directed design.
The final design of the application was evaluated against the WCAG 2.2 guidelines and received approval from the client. The updated design presents a more modern aesthetic compared to the original application and is now ready to advance to the development phase.
