Tiivistelmä
This thesis examines automating the manual activity of assembling window glass into frames. Background of the work: Robomatik Oy is a leading Finnish company in industrial automation solutions. The existing assembly of the product is having safety issues with the operators using it. It also provides inconsistent quality and variable outcome. Frequent use of nail guns can be harmful to one’s health. Similarly, fatigue causes mistakes.
Making this process automatic is complicated. It requires specific objectives, advanced technologies, compatible systems, and safety regulations. The thesis summarizes how the issues were tackled, specifying the technology selected and the means of testing and calibration used.
The results expected from the automation project are better quality products, lesser error rates, no health hazards, a safe working environment, and higher production levels. Robomatik Oy is seeking to create an example for similar projects through automation to improve operational efficiencies.
This research discusses the technical and practical aspects of automation of a manual manufacturing process under the category of industrial automation. The results point to the pros and cons of such changes. In particular, the study shows automation can help improve a plant’s safety, quality, and efficiency.
