This thesis was carried out in cooperation with the Finnish company NEWS Seas Oy, and the company plans to source and deliver seafood from all around the world and supply it among European countries. Main goal of the thesis is to develop a modern website and a prototype mobile application for the company, which will improve the accessibility of services and the customer experience. The website serves as the primary customer interface, while the prototype of the mobile application supports the ordering process for the regular customers.
The work described the development process of both platforms in detail. The website was built using the WordPress platform, which enables content management in a flexible and cost-effective way. The prototype of the mobile application was developed using the Kotlin programming language in the Android Studio development environment, and its’ backend is based on Firebase, which provides authentication, database, and communication functionality.
After the development process, a user survey was carried out to evaluate the usability, layout and functionality of the website. The results showed that users perceived the website as clear and informative. Based on the feedback received, small improvements were also made, especially in terms of navigation and the presentation of content.
The thesis shows that by combining modern technologies, it is possible to develop a functional, affordable and scalable digital service solution for the company. The result of the work provides NEWS Seas Oy with concrete tools for the development of digital customer service and business.
