Tiivistelmä
Taking care of the children in the hospitalized is not just involves medical treatment, but it also meets the requirements of the basic emotion, psychological, and developmental needs. Children often are fear, emotion stress, anxiety and feel discomfort when they are in the hospitals. Therefore, nurses are important in providing comfort, support and care during treatment. This project is aimed at studying and supporting for nursing students during learning how to child-centered, and family-centered care, and knowing how to create an environment where the children feel safe, comfort, empathy and respect as well.

Study creates a resource, practical and educational handbook for nursing students, who can focus on pediatric care, especially addressing the basic needs and emotional management of children in hospital. It helps nursing students feel confident, competent, and compassionate when caring for pediatric patients. This study is developed in collaboration with Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) as a part of processing enhance nursing education and contribute a long-term quality in healthcare delivery in Finland.

The method of this study is Waterfall model; it is used to apply in educational and development for the study of this project. The steps process throughout the specific phase to define educational needs for the nursing students at Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) how to meet the basic needs of hospitalized children and create a practical educational handbook during development and implementation phases. The results and output of this study are produced for the purpose of supporting nursing students in confidence, and competence in healthcare, especially children of age-appropriate care, emotional support, and involving of family in treatment.
The final product of this study is a helpful handbook, clearly written to support nursing students in high quality care of children in hospital settings.
