Tiivistelmä
The goal of this project thesis was to plan, implement, and evaluate a Health Promotion Day for the residents and staff of Porin Sininauha. The aim was to increase awareness of how lifestyle choices affect physical and mental health, particularly in relation to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), obesity, and hypertension. The project also aimed to promote healthier lifestyles through education, physical activity, and basic health screenings.

Waterfall project management model was employed, with close attention paid to the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and closure. Literature was reviewed to identify best practices in health promotion. The event targeted the clients and staff of Porin Sininauha and was organized with minimal resources and in collaboration with staff familiar with the participants. The event included lifestyle education, a chair-based physical activity session, and health measurements (weight, blood pressure, and blood glucose). Ethical guidelines, including participant consent and confidentiality, were strictly followed.

The Health Promotion Day was held on April 25, 2025. Twelve participants measured their vitals, weight, and blood pressure. Ten measured their blood glucose levels. Participant engagement was high, especially during the educational and physical activity sessions. Feedback from 9 participants indicated a positive response, with most ratings of the event as good to excellent across all areas.
The results demonstrate that a structured, community-based health promotion event can effectively raise awareness and encourage healthier lifestyle choices. The combination of education, physical activity, and health checks proved beneficial. The approach is recommended for similar settings and populations to support holistic health and well-being.
